Unveiling the Magic of Circles: Grade 5 Explores the Circumference of Things! ?

Join Our Journey into the World of Circles

On 16th August 2024, our enthusiastic Grade 5 students embarked on an exciting journey into the world of circles with a hands-on activity called “Circumference of Things.” This interactive session at one of the best CBSE schools in Salem was all about discovering the fascinating concept of the circumference! ?

Purpose: Learning Circles Inside Out

The activity aimed to solidify students’ understanding of the circle’s fundamental elements:
– Radius: Half of the diameter
– Diameter: Twice the radius
– Circumference: The special term for a circle’s perimeter, calculated using the formula 2πr (π = 3.14). ?

How the Activity Unfolded ?

Students were asked to bring circular objects like hula hoops, plates, and clocks. Seated in house-wise circles, the students measured the diameter of each object, calculated the radius, and then found the circumference using the formula 2πr. For instance, they measured a hula hoop’s diameter (14 cm), calculated the radius (7 cm), and then determined the circumference (43.96 cm). To their delight, their calculated circumference matched the actual measurement! ✨

Outcomes: What They Learned ?

Through this activity, students gained a deep understanding of the relationship between a circle’s radius, diameter, and circumference. They also learned that the circumference is simply the perimeter of a circle—just with a fancy name! This hands-on experience made learning both fun and memorable, proving once again why we are among the top schools in Salem! ?
