Students Cast Their Votes in the SPL and ASPL Elections
On Thursday 18 June 2026, students from Grades 5 to 12 cast their votes in the SPL and ASPL elections at Vidhya Peetham i-School. Students from the middle, secondary and senior secondary classes all had the chance to take part in choosing who would hold these two posts.
Democracy beyond the textbook
Most students first meet democracy as a chapter in a textbook. This activity treated it as something to practise: an ideal that gives every person a say, and in which every voice matters. The right to vote sits at the centre of that idea, and on election day students had the chance to use it for themselves.
The activity formed part of the school's life skills work. It gave students first-hand experience of what it means to make a choice and record it through a fair, shared process.
Polling day for the SPL and ASPL elections
Voting took place in a classroom set up as a polling station. The chalkboard at the front showed the date, the day and the words "Student Council SPL/ASPL". Two cardboard ballot boxes, wrapped in white paper and clearly labelled, stood on desks in front of it.
Students waited in line at the doorway for their turn. Inside, a polling desk was set up with stacks of ballot papers and marker pens, with students seated behind it to receive each voter. From there, voters stepped up to the ballot boxes to cast their votes.
After voting, groups of students gathered outside and in the corridors for photographs, smiling and holding up their index fingers.
Results to follow
The results of the SPL and ASPL elections have not yet been announced. They will be shared with the school community once they are ready.
We thank every student who took the time to vote, and the students who helped run the polling desk on the day.
